Peacock?

Remember mentions of the peacock in the same book that the dancing butterflies are from...  Well, the peacock on the front cover is really what drew my attention to it and made me buy the book.  I tried it once unsuccessfully, put it down and did the butterflies instead.  Last night I thought it was time for another try...  It was looking much better but halfway down the body, it's gone wrong again!  I've been examining the pattern and the diagram and the photo....  I've counted and re-counted...  and my conclusion is that there is a mistake in the pattern.  I can't seem to make it work out if I follow the written pattern (that's if my interpretation of the German directions are correct of course!).  So I've been studying it again and will re-write it how I think it should go to make it look the way it looks in the picture and then tackle the tatting again.

Here's a sneak-peek in the meantime...
Best wishes,

  1. He looks gorgeous, and it looks quite a hard pattern but I am sure you will work it out. And thank you for thinking of us all by rewriting the pattern.

  3. I'm patiently waiting for that book. I also was attracted to it because of the peacock. He looks wonderful so far!

  4. Your peacock looks great so far! I saw that book too and have been so tempted to get it. I'm no where NEAR good enough for something like that, but I hope to be one day, so it's on my list. You're an inspiration. Great work!

  6. I have the book and did the bocy twice. On the very last row of chains I did a split chain to get it to end where it should. The tail is a whole different thing. Started it twice and am on my third try to get it the right.

    1. I hope we'll get to see the result of your endeavours? I really don't think it's written right. I've been having another go tonight and if you look closely at the picture, it shows a different number of stitches to what is stated in the pattern. How are you getting on with the tail?

  7. Very nice so far. Your block tatting is impeccable. Great color choice for the body! Diagrams are my personal preference for following patterns. It's easier to see if there are any oopsies in it. I'm keeping notes of your progress so I can follow them when it's my turn to make this one. I'm still waiting for Lacis to send my copy. :(

  8. Great work so far! Your block tatting is impeccable and the color choice is perfect. This is why I prefer diagrams over written patterns, it's easier to see if there any oopsies that way. I'm keeping notes of your progress so I have something to refer to when I get to do this one. Still waiting for Lacis to send my copy. :(

    1. Hi Stephanie, my perfect choice is a diagram AND written explanations but even though in this case, both are available, it's still not that easy to work out! I wait to hear what you think when you receive the book.

    1. Yes, strange but I decided to add a bead for the eye and I agree with you, it gives him a different expression!

    1. Hope you like the book! Word of warning though.... I'll soon show you the pages of notes I've been taking to figure out the pattern! But then maybe it's me... if anyone has managed this peacock without any problems by just following the pattern as it is in the book, I'd love to hear from them!
